Undergravel Filters operate by gently drawing water down through the gravel under the tray and expelling it near the surface. 

Beneficial- Wate removing- Bacteraestablish in the gravel after 3-4 weeks. Do not stock your aquarium to its fish holding capacity until after this period 

Regularly clean the gravel with the use of a syphon gravel Cleaner
